Hundley-Whaley Research Farm Development
A vision for tomorrow in Northwest Missouri
What Are We About?
The objective of the Hundley-Whaley Farm
Planning Committee is to develop the
Research Farm into a "regional training
center" with emphasis on agronomy. It will
require much cooperation. They feel that
the following will be needed to achieve their
goal.
- Construction of a comprehensive
office and meeting facility at the site
(Learning Discovery Center).
- Development of a full time staff to
conduct applied research, with
emphasis on biotechnology.
- Development of a research "network"
program that would encompass
research on the farm and on the farms
of leading farmers in the Northwest
Missouri Region.
- Development of an outreach and
extension program for farm and non-farm audiences that would encompass
all areas of the food production chain.
The Hundley-Whaley Research Farm
is a part of the
University of Missouri's College of
Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources
and the Missouri Agricultural Experiment
Station
Who Benefits?
The Center will belong to the people of Northwest Missouri.
While the present audience for Hundley-Whaley activities centers around commercial
agriculture producers, attention has been
given to other potential audiences in
northwest Missouri. Twenty-six audiences
have been identified that could benefit from an
enhanced presence at the farm.
These were grouped as follows:
- Educators (Vocational Agriculture, primary and
secondary school teachers)
- Youth (4-H, FFA, K-12 students)
- Ag Business (Certified Crop Advisors, Crop
Protection Co. Reps, etc)
- Ag Producers (Full-time, part-time farmers,
Young Farmers, Foresters, etc.)
- Decision Makers (Media representatives,
legislators, environmental leaders, etc.)
- Professionals (Nurses, teachers, doctors, etc.
through distance learning opportunities)
- Public (Garden clubs, women landowners,
homeowners, etc.)
How Can You Help?
We need to raise $150,000 within Northwest
Missouri before February 15. This will greatly
help in our effort to secure a requested $363,000
from the Missouri legislature this spring to
complete the center. Our state representatives have
told us that local support is essential if they are to
convince colleagues to invest in this project.
No gift is too small. However, there are some
recognition opportunities.
| Recognition Opportunity |
| Platinum Level | $1000 |
| Gold Level | $500 |
| Silver Level | $250 |
Those investing at these levels will be
recognized on a plaque displayed in the
Learning Discovery Center.
All donors will receive a framed certificate for
display in the home or office, and public
recognition at the September 7, 2000, ribbon
cutting ceremony for the center.
There is also an opportunity for naming
specific rooms in the center in
remembrance of donors who provide a
$25,000 gift.
