First Quarter 2008 Weather Update
We didn’t have to wait for
"April showers" to start this year.
After ending 2007 more than 10”
above normal precipitation, the
trend continued the first 3 months
in 2008. January was 0.40" above
normal, and February totaled
4.84", including 4¼" of snow and
ice; keep in mind, February is
normally our driest month of the
year averaging only 1.87".
March delivered a whopping
9.01" of precipitation, the second
greatest for the month of March.
The record belongs to March 1973
at 9.64".
Following above average temperatures
in January, February and
March basically cancelled each
other out; the former was 1.7°F
below normal and the latter was
1.7°F above normal.
Temperatures dropped to
freezing (32°F) or below 64 days
during the first quarter of 2008.
The lowest temperature of 5ºF
was recorded on January 24. So,
unlike the past few years where
we saw unusually warm (and in
some cases record-breaking) January,
February and March, the temperatures
for the first quarter of
2008 were just slightly above normal.
