| TechConnect is looking for a few good researchers
Here is an opportunity for those of you who wish to connect your research with the Department of Defense and or national security research.
TechConnect, a spin-off company from the national security efforts at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, is looking for high-quality, experienced faculty to participate as consultants in the TechConnect national security venture. Consultants are needed in a variety of areas ranging from meterology and environmental science to biology and health sciences to traditional areas in engineering related to defense needs. Interested faculty should respond directly to John Nemeth (contact information below) indicating your interest.

Picture it, if you will, a trio of children on a playground in a deep discussion about who should be “it” first in this round of tag.
“Right,” says the girl in pig tails seated at the center of the group, “So, since you have more time to devote to tag during your recess hour because you have recently finished up your four square project, I suggest that you be it 20% FTE and she can be it 10% FTE and we can split the benefits of tag accordingly.”
Elizabeth Bent got an early start in grants and contracts administration on the mean streets of Columbia, Mo. Despite this early interest in grants and contracts, however, she was led astray by the School of Journalism at the University of Missouri and a promise of graduation with the understanding of the complex differences between the words “nauseated” and “nauseous.”
While a student at MU Bent worked as a student worker in the Office of Sponsored Program Administration and was able to act as a fly on the wall, absorbing further knowledge of grants administration at MU.
After graduating with a degree in Magazine Publishing, Bent accepted a position in the College of Education Office of Research Support. No longer a fly on the wall, she gained two years of hands-on grants experience from Grant Writer Susanne Carter and Grants and Contracts Administrator Brandi Rifner before coming to CAFNR to take over where Martha Jones left off.
While she would like to say that taking this position in CAFNR is the crowning achievement in her life so far, she is afraid that her 11-week-old daughter, Sofia, already has that distinction
